Okay, please repeat after me.
You do not have to have a Pain Resume in order to talk about how you feel. You do not need two letters of recommendation and a list of perscrip medications and an armful of scars to be Sufficiently Screwed Up.
If you are unhappy or scared or in pain or worried or anxious or depressed or whatever you have every right to that feeling and every right to express that feeling, regardless of whether there are People Out There Somewhere who are suffering more than you or suffering in a different or more socially acceptable way.
Don’t let anyone delegitimatize your suffering. And don’t delegitimatize your own suffering. You have every right to feel the way you feel. And it is much easier and more bearable to be sad or upset or in pain if you are not constantly berating yourself for feeling that way.
